What an experience

We have been living with a host family for two weeks here in Santa Domingo. It has been a growing experience. For the most part, it's been really hard. Living in someone's house with an active 10 month old is interesting. He's into everything and gets so frustrated when I keep pulling him away from stuff he can't have. Luckily he has only broken one thing (on daddy's watch :) ). Our host family was amazing though. They loved Connor and were so nice and gracious towards us. They don't have any kids, but had a dog that Connor chased around as much as he could (which included a lot of hair pulling). The dad actually comes to Lawrence a lot, so we should be seeing him again in about a month or so.
I do not have the gift of tongues that's for sure. I've been taking an hour of Spanish class every day while we have been here. I can read it better (sort of) but I can't understand a thing people are saying. And speaking, ha! Makes me grateful I served an English speaking mission. Once again, so much respect for people who served foreign missions!! All the teachers of course loved Connor and hugged and squeezed him any chance they could.

I've been a little nervous walking around with Connor by myself while Clark is in school. We've gone to the park a lot and the market place. Connor loves chasing the pigeons with the other kids! He even got a big ol smooch on the lips from the cutest Haitian 4/5 yr old the other day. I just wish Connor didn't want to pick up everything on the ground and eat it. It's really dirty here, lots of trash. He's had diarrhea, heat rash, and puked a ton. He's fallen and gotten a few good bumps on the head. The host mom, Iris, gave us vics vapor to rub on it. She uses it for everything (reminds me of my big fat Greek wedding). They call it vaparo here. It's fun to say :)

Below are some pictures from Santa Domingo.
